Hi, I’m Carlos! My business is Fovea Imagery, and here’s my story -

I started using a DSLR camera when I was 14 years old. But my love for photography & capturing a subject was growing years before that. I hadn’t even turned 10 and I already had access to my very own phone. This is when it all truly began. I & my family would regularly go on hikes as a means of enjoying time together, and on those hikes I would take photos of whatever caught my eye, not knowing that I was slowly building a base for composition, depth-of-field, contrast, etc. It took nearly half a decade later for me to dive deeper into my recurring enjoyment of capturing subjects & landscapes, but once I got started it never went away.

Nearing the end of 2020, I asked my parents if they could gift me a camera for Christmas out of nowhere. After some thought and consideration of my request, they said yes. Shortly after, me and my mom were set out to get one second-hand. We looked for about a week or two online, whilst I was doing research both on Google & YouTube on the best models that fit our price range, and were able to find one on Offerup for a few hundred dollars in San Francisco. We went on a sunny afternoon, got the camera, arrived at the beach to test it out, and when I gripped my new camera with both my hands to take a few snapshots I didn’t even know how or where to press the shutter button or even to simply turn it on. Me and my mom laughed, as I was confident that I would be able to take a picture of the vibrant waves effortlessly. That’s when I knew there was a long road of knowledge ahead of me.

After my failed attempt at taking pictures, I turned my attention towards gathering resources and information. I did free photoshoots for my family, watched YouTube videos, read articles, became active on photography Subreddits, and practiced a lot! I took my camera everywhere, and when I say everywhere, I mean everywhere. Road trips, all around my home & yard, family events, hikes, to work, as well as school. My camera became a necessity.

I later went on to do my first paid portrait session in 2022, and ever since then, It’s been an ongoing adventure! My work has been used for marketing, social media, banners, ads, etc. Having done a wide range of forms of photography has allowed me to rapidly grow my understanding within the field in such a short period of time!
